How much does land clearing cost?

We price per acre in three brackets: light work runs $1,000-$1,750/acre, medium runs $1,750-$2,750/acre (the most common), and heavy — steep slopes, thick brush, 6-12 inch trees — runs $2,750+/acre. We walk the property free, tell you which bracket it fits, and lock the quote flat before any work starts.

What does land clearing cost per acre in Southern Illinois?

Accepted Answer

Most jobs around here land in the medium bracket at $1,750-$2,750 per acre. Open brush on flat ground can run as low as $1,000/acre; dense material on rough terrain runs $2,750 and up. Small or odd-shaped jobs can also go hourly at $300/hr with a 3-hour minimum, or $2,300 for a full 8-hour day.

Do I need a permit to clear land in Illinois?

Accepted Answer

For most brush and tree clearing on private rural land, no. Because we mulch in place, you also skip the burn permit that traditional clearing requires. Exceptions exist — some municipalities regulate tree removal inside city limits, and wetlands or waterways can involve state or federal rules. If your job touches one of those, we'll flag it during the walk-through.

What's the difference between mulching and bulldozer land clearing?

Accepted Answer

A bulldozer pushes trees over, rips roots, strips topsoil, and leaves burn piles or a hauling bill. A forestry mulcher grinds everything into chips where it stands and leaves the soil intact under a protective mulch layer. Dozer clearing makes sense when you need stumps out below grade and the dirt regraded — for a building pad, say. For reclaiming land, mulching is faster and easier on the ground.

How many acres can you clear in a day?

Accepted Answer

Depends on density. Light brush runs 2-4 acres a day. Medium — mixed brush and small trees — runs 1-2 acres. Heavy material with mature trees runs half an acre to an acre per day. We'll give you a realistic timeline with the quote.

What size trees can you clear?

Accepted Answer

Standing material up to about 8 inches comfortably, 10 inches when the density is lighter. Bigger trees get dropped first with a chainsaw or referred to a tree service — then we grind the tops and clean up around them.

Do you remove the stumps too?

Accepted Answer

Mulching cuts trees to ground level; the stump stays at grade under the mulch. For most reclaimed land that's fine — you can mow right over it. If you want stumps gone below grade, we grind them at $7.50/inch as a separate line item. If you need them fully excavated for a foundation or building pad, that's excavator work and we'll tell you so.

Will the brush grow back?

Some will. Seed banks for multiflora rose, honeysuckle, and autumn olive stay viable in the soil for years. The mulch layer slows regrowth, and most landowners put us on an annual or every-other-year maintenance pass. After 2-3 cycles the seed bank is depleted and the land stays clear.

Do you do grading or dirt work after clearing?

Accepted Answer

No. We clear above grade and leave the topsoil intact — that's the point of mulching. Grading, excavation, and pad prep are a different trade. We're happy to recommend crews we've worked with, and honestly, the cleaner site we leave makes their job cheaper.

Do you handle residential land clearing, or just big acreage?

Accepted Answer

Both. We clear around homes, yards, and small parcels regularly — the machine fits through a 48-inch gate. Jobs under about a quarter acre are priced per project since mobilization is the fixed cost, and we can often bundle with a neighbor's job to share the trip.
